CHAMOMILE IN MIND

Translucent bag of potpourri
Herbal tea in a gauzy film
Seeds
Broken leaves
A few thin stems

An infusion of mildly mind-altering flavor
A hint of steam
Green matter floating in amber fluid

My mind floats
Gently
With the bag
In the tea

The world floats
Gently
In a gauzy film—
My mind

MASCARA/IMPERMANENCE

Ecstasy of sadness
Bold yellow
Drooping daisies
Edges curling

There is bright color still
Only touches of brown
On the daisy-eyes
Mascara
Impermanence
Around the edges

A moment has passed
Fresh life
Young life

Old life
Tenuous beauty
Remains
Until all is mascara—
